The Deloache Avenue neighbors that went viral last year for their Christmas lights have returned with a Grinch-themed display.

After decorating their yard with twelve-foot skeletons and grim reapers for Halloween, Ryan and Mandi Devitis chose to celebrate Christmas with decorations from Dr. Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Like the Devitises’ previous displays, the decorations have drawn plenty of visitors and a new wave of neighborhood debate. Last Christmas, the City spent $25,000 trying to manage the traffic that accompanied the crowds.

Neighbors have previously complained about visitors leaving trash on the street. In response, District 13 Council member Gay Donnell Willis said she would attempt to strengthen code compliance around what she referred to as END: Extraordinary Neighborhood Disruption.

Despite the opposition, the Devitis home has garnered support on social media. A TikTok account (@6215deloacheave) run by the Devitises has over 10,600 likes and describes the decorations as “heartfelt efforts to keep the holiday joy alive.”
