Opa’s Glühwein Benefit is coming back for its sixth year in Lakewood this Saturday.

The benefit started as a small neighborhood event during the pandemic by Dr. Hubert Zajicek and his family “to foster connection and generosity during a challenging time,” according to a press release. Rooted in Austrian holiday tradition, the festivities include drinking warm glühwein (mulled wine) or hot chocolate and checking out Christmas lights in Lakewood.

As the name suggests, the event encourages donations to benefit the North Texas Food Bank and other charitable initiatives supported by the Dallas Rotary Club Foundation, according to the press release. The North Texas Food Bank President and CEO Trisha Cunningham is expected to attend the event, along with other regional leaders.

Opa’s Glühwein Benefit will take place starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20 at Zajicek’s home. Register here.
