The South Oak Cliff Golden Bears earned the team’s third state championship title in five years.

The UIL 5A Division II champions bested the Richmond Randle Lions 35-19 on Saturday afternoon at AT&T Stadium.

SOC is one of eight schools in Texas UIL history to have attended a state championship game for the fifth season in a row. This win not only brought the title back to SOC, but led head coach Jason Todd to become the first Black head coach to win three titles in UIL history.

Todd was joined hours later by DeSoto’s coach Claude Mathis when the Eagles won the 6A Division II championship game against the Houston King Panthers.

Dallas ISD will host a celebration for the Golden Bears’ historic win with a special event on Saturday, Jan. 10 at South Oak Cliff High School.
