There has been a new development in the ongoing debate between neighbors on Deloache Avenue here in Preston Hollow. At the center of the story is the home of Ryan and Mandi Devitis, which has become a tourist attraction owing to a series of over-the-top holiday lawn displays.
After going viral in 2024 via TikTok, the residence drew crowds of onlookers through what is typically a quiet residential neighborhood between Preston Road and Hillcrest Road near Preston Hollow Park. The accompanying traffic, litter, and noise caused controversy among some neighbors, while others voiced support for the spirited displays via social media. For the City, last year’s displays at the Devitis home rang up a $25,000 expense for the resulting Dallas Police Department response.
Fast forward to October of this year, and in a proactive attempt to head off the situation, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem and District 13 Council Member Gay Donnell Willis made a request of potential sightseers to “resist the urge to go by and see it — look it up online if you must.” Despite this effort, however, the Devitis’ 2025 Grinch-themed display is again drawing crowds and stirring debate.
A special event permit has been issued to help reduce the influx on weekend evenings. Details were provided in a District 13 Special Announcement from Council Member Gay Donnell Willis dated Sunday, December 21:
“Off-duty officers hired and paid for by Preston Hollow Citizens For A Safer Community will limit access to Deloache Avenue between Preston Road and Edgemere in North Dallas to residents and invited guests. The neighborhood group obtained a special event permit that allows the group to restrict vehicle and pedestrian traffic on weekend evenings in December due to large crowds viewing the holiday display at 6215 Deloache.”
The statement also detailed that the limited access will specifically be limited to the 6200 block of Deloache Avenue, and that invitations sourced via social media will not be valid for entry.
