If you’re one to quickly put away the holiday decor, here are some options for disposing of your Christmas tree before (or even after) the new year.

Labeled as the “best option” by the City of Dallas, residents can have up to 10 cubic yards of Christmas tree brush picked up for Brush and Bulky Item Collection through the Department of Sanitation.

Service requests can be filled out online. All tinsel, lights, decorations, tree stands and plastic bags must be removed from Christmas trees for pick up.

Trees cannot be put out prior to 7 a.m. on the Thursday before the collection week. Trees must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on Monday of the pick up week.

Dallas residents can also drop off undecorated, natural Christmas trees at the City of Dallas Landfill or one of the transfer stations from Dec. 26, 2025 through Jan. 24, 2026 for Christmas Tree Recycling.

For our neighborhood, the Southwest (Oak Cliff) Transfer Station is accepting live tree drop offs for disposal at no charge. Hours for the transfer station are typically Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.  However, the station is closed on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day with limited hours on the surrounding days, so check online for updated times.
