Last weekend’s winter storm is sticking around this week. The National Weather Service has extended an Extreme Cold Warning for our area through Tuesday, January 27, at 9 a.m. The City of Dallas continues to remain closed due to weather for services regarding schools, libraries and city services.
To stay safe during the winter weather, remember the Four P’s:
- Protect People: Minimize time outdoors and wear layers. Check on your neighbors.
- Protect Pipes: Insulate your pipes. Open sink cabinets and disconnect sprinklers.
- Protect Pets: Keep them indoors and ensure their food and water doesn’t freeze.
- Protect Plants: Cover your plants the night before.
The City of Dallas has announced that City Hall will remain closed Tuesday, January 27 with all planned city meetings canceled. Public safety and other critical services will continue to be provided according to the City of Dallas News Hub.
The Office of Arts and Culture facilities, West Dallas Multipurpose Center, Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, Vital Statistics office in Dallas Central Library and WIC Clinics will also be closed through Tuesday. Those indeed of assistance for WIC services can contact 214-670-7200, email AskWIC@dallas.gov or visit TexasWIC.org to apply for services.
Although all Dallas Public Library branches are closed through Tuesday as well, residents can access the library 24/7 at DallasLibrary.org.
Dallas ISD schools will remain closed for Tuesday with make-up instructional days set for Monday, April 6 and Monday, May 4, according to The Hub. As of Tuesday afternoon, Dallas ISD schools will remain closed for Wednesday, Jan. 28.
For the safety of crews and residents, all garbage, recycling, brush, and bulky collection services were suspended for Monday, Jan. 26, with services originally expected to resume on Tuesday with a delayed start. As of Tuesday morning, due to neighborhood streets and alleys expected to remain impassable for equipment, services will not resume, and it is unclear if conditions will improve enough to resume in all areas by Wednesday.
