Public restrooms at the Lakewood Branch Library will soon be closed for renovations.
Portable toilets were expected to be delivered earlier this week as work starts on Feb. 4, according to District 14 City Council member Paul Ridley’s newsletter. This project was among the 2024 bond propositions passed by Dallas voters and will upgrade the restrooms to ensure they are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Abatement and demolition is expected to take place between Feb. 19 and March 11, according to Ridley’s newsletter, which also listed an April 23 completion date for the project. The library is supposed to stay open during construction and be available for early voting later this month for the March Primary Election.
“The contractor has given us assurances that they do not believe that the branch will need to close during this time,” Ridley said in his newsletter. “They have agreed to accommodate our needs, whether that is to start early ahead of the branch opening, or to temporarily pause work throughout the day to ensure that voting is not disrupted.”
