A teacher at Dan D. Rogers Elementary School at Abrams Road and Lovers Lane is a finalist for the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards.
Bilingual teacher Maria Bofi was surprised with $1,000 on Wednesday, March 4 in honor of her being selected as a Rising Star Elementary finalist, which is one of the educator award categories. Dan D. Rogers Elementary School also received $1,000, according to Dallas ISD.
“The H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards are designed to honor outstanding public school professionals and to thank them for their dedication and commitment,” reads H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards’ website. “Through this program, H-E-B seeks to pay tribute to those educators who go the extra mile each and every day to serve their students and their communities and who inspire others to do the same.”
The awards have existed since 2002, and H-E-B has given $14 million to Texas teachers, counselors, principals, school boards, school districts, and public and private early childhood education centers, according to the website. Eligible teachers are passionate about their work and field and display innovation and creativity in their classrooms as well as professional growth and development.
The H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards ceremony is expected to take place this spring.
