The TCR Fest asks, “What about Texas makes you feel optimistic?”

A pair of upcoming competitions offer the opportunity for young local artists to showcase their work in high-profile settings. First up, the Texas Country Reporter Festival asks students of all ages to express their optimism through creativity. Later in the spring, the 2026 Congressional Art Competition is open to high school-age artists, with a grand prize exhibition in our nation’s capital. Read on for the details.

“Oasis of Optimism” Art Contest

This year’s 30th TCR Fest will take place on Saturday, March 28, in Grand Prairie. Known for featuring unique Texas vendors, activities, and refreshments, this year’s event will also showcase entries in a youth art contest open to grades K–12. Art should be inspired by the prompt: “What about Texas makes you feel optimistic?” Entries can be submitted online or by mail and will be judged by the Texas Monthly art department. Winners’ artwork will be printed in a future issue of the magazine.

Texas’ 24th Congressional District Representative, Beth Van Duyne, invites local students to enter the 2026 Congressional Art Competition. This district includes much of Preston Hollow and surrounding areas, and the competition is open to public, private, and home-schooled high school students who reside within the district. The Grand Prize winner’s entry will be displayed in Washington, D.C., alongside winning artwork from districts across the country.
