The annual 214 Selena festival returns this week with three days of activities to celebrate the legacy of singer-songwriter Selena Quintanilla Perez.

Selena has several ties to Oak Cliff, reportedly visiting the neighborhood during her Dallas tour dates and having filmed the music video for her song “Tu No Sabes” at Martin Weiss Park. When she died in the early ’90s, Country Burger on South Hampton Road was filled with Selena memorabilia in her honor and has kept pieces of her throughout the restaurant. And of course there’s the Selena mural on the side of the Top Ten Records building.

This year’s festival starts Thursday, March 19 with free live performances, lotería and prizes at Olmo Market, hosted by Veronica Valentine, from 6 to 9 p.m., according to an Instagram post.

Then at the Texas Theatre on Friday, March 20 there is a screening of the 1997 movie Selena starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase online now. Following the movie, free DJ sets from Principe Q will play for attendees 21 or older.

Lastly, Saturday, March 21 local vendors, music, a Selena contest and sets DJ Amaris and Principe Q will come together for the 214 Selena Market hosted at Four Corners Brewing Company in collaboration with Olmo Market.
