Today, we’re sharing several upcoming opportunities to explore the world from our own backyard–no suitcase required. The following events and exhibitions will bring a taste of Spain, a South American adventure, and more, to local museums in weeks to come. Read on for the details.

Celebrate Spain 2026
Thursday, April 23, 7 p.m. 

Presented in partnership with the National Tourism Office of Spain, this annual event combines food, wine, and an artisan marketplace. Docents will also be on-hand for insight into the Meadows Museum’s world-class collection of Spanish art. Event is free and open to the public; pre-registration is required via link above.

Samurai to the Imperial Court: Japanese Metalwork
On view through September 6

Showcasing 90 priceless works, this exhibition explores over five centuries of Japanese history through metal craftsmanship. Items include decorative pieces commissioned by the Imperial court, as well as fine art sculptures, and Samurai suits of armor. Tickets are $20 with DMA General Admission.

Paradise on Earth: Florals in Indian Textiles
On view through November 15

Also at the DMA, this new exhibition illustrates the point at which “art, nature, and craftsmanship intertwine.” More than a dozen decorative and wearable textiles are included, spanning India’s Mughal empire (1526–1827) through current designers such as Alice + Olivia. This exhibit is included with free DMA General Admission.

National Geographic Live: The Quest for the Boiling River
Wednesday, May 13, 6:30 p.m.

Hosted by geothermal scientist and National Geographic Explorer, Andrés Ruzo, this special event centers on a journey into the Peruvian jungle to find the source of a legendary river. Pair it with a visit to the museum’s Soccer: More Than a Game exhibit (open through September 7) for a full day of international exploration. Event tickets are $45; exhibit tickets are $12 (with purchase of General Admission).
