Lake Highlands United Methodist Church will welcome Susan Morgan, author of Build a Bridge to Somewhere: A Guide to Community Volunteering as part of their Older Adult Ministries “Author Talk” series on May 6. Morgan has been on a local tour since publishing her book last May.
Morgan was the driving force behind the multiyear effort to raise the new Skillman Street Arch Bridge over LBJ Freeway. When she spoke to the Lake Highlands Women’s League in March, she shared lessons about leadership, volunteerism and perseverance.
“What do we know about Lake Highlands? If you need help, people are willing to help you,” Morgan recognized repeatedly during the 20-year process required to bring the bridge to fruition. “I was amazed that people that just raised their hand and said, ‘Oh, sure, I can help you with that.’ If it’s something people are familiar with, they’ll be glad to help you figure that out.”
You may purchase the book on Amazon here. Morgan’s talk will begin at 1 p.m. in LHUMC’s Fellowship Hall, 9015 Plano Road. Admission is free, and all are welcome.
