Lucky Dog Barkery debuted in the Plaza at Preston Center long before specialty pet supply shops were a staple in many strip malls. Founder Marsha Lindsey was ahead of the trend in 2005 when she left her corporate job to launch what she calls, “the kind of store your dog would build.” Today, she reflects on two decades as a go-to resource for Dallas pet lovers.

“Twenty years ago, I took a leap of faith with a simple idea to create a place where dogs are treated with the same care and attention as family,” says Lindsey. Her vision came to life on a shoestring budget using repurposed materials. She lined her shelves with wholesome foods and supplements to suit all canine tastes and diets. Icing the cake, so to speak, she also stocked Lucky Dog Barkery with an extensive array of treats and colorful “fashion” for dogs.

As time moved forward, the store remained independent. Lindsey declined franchise offers and outside investments in favor of remaining a single-location, in-person retailer. Growing steadily with time, she continued to encourage customers from the surrounding Preston Hollow and University Park neighborhoods to visit with their dogs. Today, Lucky Dog Barkery enters its twenty-first year in its largest footprint yet at 8320 Preston Center Plaza. Staffers are still on a first-name basis with many longtime patrons and their four-legged friends.

“Seeing the relationships we’ve built with our customers, their pets, and the Plaza’s surrounding communities has been incredibly rewarding,” says Lindsey. “I’m grateful to everyone who has been part of supporting this journey.”
