Lake Highlands women’s soccer prevailed over Irving Nimitz, 8-0, on Tuesday.
Lake Highlands’ women’s soccer team after defeating Richardson to clinch the 2024-2025 district title.
Having beaten the Vikings earlier this year, the Wildcats completed the season sweep against Nimitz with the win as Lake Highlands (10-5-2, 9-0-1 District 7-6A) continues its impressive district campaign. The Wildcats have now won six-straight versus Nimitz (9-9-1, 5-6).
Peri Howell punched first for Lake Highlands in the 14th minute of the game. Dani Chaump, a University of Kentucky commit, provided a nice crosser to set up the early goal.
From then on, it was all Wildcats. Just a minute later, Chaump raced down the field before drilling a goal of her own, courtesy of Addyson Perez. Chaump refused to leave the game alone and, with 20 minutes remaining in the opening half, she recorded another assist. Kacy Corcoran was the beneficiary, giving Lake Highlands a 3-0 lead just a quarter into the match.
Perez, a University of Texas at El Paso pledge, went on to record her second assist of the ball game in the 21st minute, just moments after the Wildcats went up three scores. She set up Laine Smith from 20 yards out, who drilled the ball into the net.
Corcoran, who is committed to furthering her soccer career at the University of Tulsa, helped put the finishing touches on an astounding first half for Lake Highlands. Tasked with a corner kick, Corcoan delivered a perfect feed, which gave Howell the opportunity for her second goal of the evening.
The Wildcats held firm through the next 14 minutes and with that, the Wildcats led 5-0 going into the break. Lake Highlands had no trouble continuing its dominance in the second half.
After an early whistle, Mattie Vietti lined up for a penalty kick six minutes into the second half. The way the Wildcats were playing, another score seemed inevitable. Inevitable it was, as Vietti powered the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal.
The score remained at 6-0 for some time, but Lake Highlands was able to pile more on. With 12 minutes remaining in the contest, Ana Alonso crossed a left-to-right pass to a streaking Chance David, who delivered another goal for the Wildcats.
Just three minutes later, Lake Highlands missed an outside shot but Howell snuck behind the defense to clean up the miss and record her third goal of the night for a hat trick. With just nine minutes left and the Wildcats up 8-0, the game was called and Lake Highlands emerged victorious.
Nimitz will close its season against Pearce (12-3-3, 7-1-1) at 7:15 p.m. Friday in Irving.
The Wildcats return to action at 7:30 p.m. Friday on the road versus Richardson (7-12, 4-6).
