Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support provides services including emergency shelter, housing, counseling, daycare, access to legal representation, and a 24-hour helpline to women and children who are experiencing domestic abuse. Founded in 1985, Genesis serves more than 2,800 clients per year across the region. All services are free, supported by donations, grants, a benefit thrift store, and fundraising events.
The organization’s annual luncheon represents its signature fundraiser, a highly-anticipated event which takes place in Dallas each spring. This year’s 33rd Annual Genesis Women’s Shelter Luncheon is set to take place on Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Hilton Anatole hotel. The award-winning actor, producer, and director Mariska Hargitay will present this year’s keynote address. Hargitay is known for her her role as Captain Olivia Benson on NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” as well as her advocacy on behalf of survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse.
“I’ve had the honor of telling survivors’ stories on television for many years,” Hargitay says. “I knew I also wanted to play a role in changing our society’s response to sexual and domestic violence so that survivors can feel seen and heard. This violence won’t end in my lifetime, but I want to contribute everything I can to help those who have been harmed reclaim lives of hope, possibility, and joy.”
“The Annual Luncheon is more than just a fundraiser, it’s a celebration of resilience and hope,” says Jan Langbein, CEO of Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support. “Mariska Hargitay’s authenticity and compassion will remind us that when we stand together for survivors, we truly can change lives.”
The event will also highlight the presentation of this year’s Jane Doe and HeRO Awards, as well as raffle drawings benefiting Genesis programs. For more information, visit www.genesisshelter.org/luncheon.
