It wasn’t a phase, apparently, because CoffeEmos is bringing back emo culture at its new Swiss Avenue coffee shop.

News of this shop has been brewing since December. CultureMap reported that CoffeEmos will open next month at 3114 Swiss Ave. across from The Meadows Foundation, where Urban Venue used to be. The shop is headed up by Francisco Gonzalez, who may or may not also be known as Frank Gonzalez and has a song “CoffeEmos” that can be played on the shop’s website. The tune has a similar sound to the era-defining band My Chemical Romance, and the merchandise on CoffeEmos’ website looks like it’s from that time as well.

“We’re not just pouring coffee; we’re building a feeling. One rooted in nostalgia, chaos, feeling and the kind of expression that leaves ink on your skin and scars on your heart,” reads the website’s “Our Story” section. “Whether you’re screaming in silence or humming your old Warped Tour favorites, this place is for the ones keeping the music and art alive — the ones who stayed up late with burned CDs, who scribbled lyrics on their shoes and who still believe that nasty breakdowns can save lives.”

Oh yeah, that’s that 2006-2008.

But what about the coffee? CoffeEmos’ website does not include a menu, nor does its Facebook and Instagram pages, but in February, the shop did announce a partnership with Eiland Coffee Roasters in Richardson. The tagline “It’s not dead, but this coffee is to die for,” which is displayed on some of the shop’s logos, may be another hint at the quality of CoffeEmos’ drinks.

CultureMap reported that drink names are either based on emo songs or emo-themed (like “espresso depresso” and “cut up cortado”), and flavors are expected to include banana, caramel, mango, matcha and lavender. Specialty lattes will cost between $6-8, and CoffeEmos is building its food menu as well. As you can probably guess, live entertainment is also expected to be hosted at the shop.
