Crime in District 10 decreased among several major categories in the first three months of 2026 compared to the same period last year, according to data shared in Council Member Kathy Stewart’s newsletter.

From Jan. 1 through March 24, total offenses against persons dropped from 106 in 2025 to 93 in 2026. Aggravated assaults declined in both categories, with firearm-related cases falling 20% and non-firearm cases down 18.4%.

Robbery of businesses decreased 40%, while robberies involving individuals rose slightly by 5%. Murder and nonnegligent manslaughter cases increased from one to four incidents.

Several other categories remained the same or declined, including fondling, which stayed the same, and rape, which dropped by 50%.

Property crimes saw a more significant overall decrease, falling from 420 incidents in 2025 to 302 in early 2026.

Business burglaries dropped sharply from 85 to 31, a 40% decrease, while residential burglaries fell nearly 14%. Motor vehicle burglaries (BMV) declined by 46.5%, and other larceny offences were down 18.8%.

Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle (UUMV) also decreased by nearly 13%.

Overall, the data shows a downward trend in both violent and property crimes in District 10 so far this year. However, some categories—including homicide and individual robberies—saw slight increases.
