Dallas ISD updates

Dallas ISD trustees voted unanimously to place the bond proposal before voters in May. The proposal totals just over $6.2 billion and would include a 1-cent increase to the interest and sinking tax rate. For a home valued at $500,000, this would equal about $33 per year, or about $2.79 per month. Homeowners age 65 and older would see no increase in most cases. Even with a 1-cent increase, Dallas ISD’s I&S tax rate would remain as the lowest interest and sinking tax rate of the 10 largest districts in North Texas.

Universal prekindergarten

Dallas ISD will provide free, high-quality pre-K to all students. High-quality pre-K builds a strong educational foundation and supports early learning development. Research has found that students who attend pre-K are 30% more likely to demonstrate kindergarten readiness than those who do not, as well as success in subsequent grades. Pre-primer program pilot

Dallas ISD is launching a pilot pre-primer program designed for students who did not attend pre-K or kindergarten, or who need additional time before entering first grade. The program focuses on early literacy, math, and social development through age-appropriate instruction, helping students enter first grade confident, prepared, and ready to learn.

District 1 updates

Here are highlights from our District 1 schools:

  • W.T. White TAG Scholars Program: I met with the team at W.T. White High School regarding the new scholars program built on the Advanced Placement capstone curriculum. The plan is to pilot the program in the 2026–2027 school year, with full implementation in 2027–2028. The initial plan includes 50 seats for students selected through an application process. Additional details will be shared as they become available.
  • Prestonwood is having too much fun: Something happened at Prestonwood Montessori at E.D. Walker. Pink cows, koala bears, and even Lego pieces kicked off testing time in a fun way.

Upcoming Events

  • Board meeting at 6 p.m. on April 23
  • Election day on May 2
