As the longtime store director of Tootsies in the Plaza at Preston Center, Nerissa von Helpenstill became a trusted resource for well-dressed women throughout Dallas. Jenn Clarke Hill, who served as the retailer’s events director, established a similar reputation through producing popular fashion shows, appearances, and benefits. In recent months, the two friends and former coworkers have applied their combined 40 years of fashion experience to launch a new clothing line.

VonVie comprises a collection of button-down shirts and jackets for women, handcrafted locally from vintage menswear and repurposed items. Each design is one-of-a-kind, highlighting oversized fit and unique details. For example, a gingham and chambray combination top features an asymmetrical hem; a versatile cropped trench is trimmed with ribbon and satin-lined.

“Our goal is to create fashion that feels alive,” says von Helpenstill. “This is such a pivotal moment in fashion. The secondhand market is exploding, sustainability is gaining traction, and women are craving pieces that are effortless and unique.”

With six “core silhouettes” complemented by seasonal items, VonVie prices range from $75 to $350. Items are available for purchase online, in-store at Tootsies, and at monthly pop-ups hosted by local boutiques. Whether virtually or in-person, the new designing duo has already received a great deal of support from neighbors in Preston Hollow, the Park Cities, and beyond.

“Tootsies gave us the gift of incredible women,” says von Helpenstill. “That community became the very foundation of VonVie. The support we’ve received from industry icons, local influencers, and loyal clients has been nothing short of beautiful.”
