The Lake Highlands Family YMCA will host “Celebration of Life” on National Cancer Survivors Day. The event will take place June 7 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The panel is designed to bring together survivors, health care professionals and community leaders to share personal experiences, encouragement and valuable insights.

The event will be moderated by Bernice Butler, editor of Natural Awakenings Publication. Guest speakers include:

  • Chris Ottinger, a cancer survivor and LIVESTRONG participant at the Plano YMCA.
  • Dr. Carolyn Smith-Morris, a medical anthropologist and professor and interim chair of the Department of Social & Behavioral Sciences at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
  • Dr. Syed Kazmi, an internal medicine, hematology and oncology specialist focused on gastrointestinal and colorectal cancer treatment at the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center.
  • Kate Cruickshank, a board-certified cancer coach, registered nurse and artist.
  • Lauren Stafford, BSN, RN, a breast cancer nurse navigator at Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute.
  • Josanna Gaither, executive director of the Ricardo Fisas Foundation.

In addition to the panel discussion, the event will feature community vendors, Zumba and yoga. Guests are encouraged to bring a mat.

The event is free and open to the public, though registration is recommended.
