There’s been a lot of talk about the state of the former blue whale mural on Akard Street in Downtown and the FIFA World Cup mural that is coming soon.
Caught in the cross fire is the city’s largest mural located on the vacant 106 W. Commerce St. building. The 150-foot-tall by 250-foot-wide piece is also in honor of the FIFA World Cup, leading to confusion online that the Commerce Street mural had replaced “Whaling Wall 82.”
“One Field, Infinite Smiles” was curated by the global nonprofit Street Art for Mankind (SAM) and commissioned by Trinity Park Conservancy, the nonprofit behind Harold Simmons Park which will span 250 acres including Oak Cliff, West Dallas and across the Trinity River.
The mural depicts “children immersed in the joy of football” with the featured jerseys of the main countries that will play in Dallas this summer and flags that appear as confetti, according to a display beside the mural.
The artwork was created by Dutch artist Rosalie de Graaf (RoosArt) with Texas artists Ade Odunfae, Bimbo Adenugba and Daniel Yanez (Artist DIY).
