Sign on White Rock Lake Trail by Steve Sills.
The outside westbound lane of Garland Road between East Lawther Drive and White Rock Creek, plus White Rock Lake Trail between East Lawther and Winsted Drives, will close temporarily while an abandoned wastewater main is grouted, according to information shared in District 9 Council member Paula Blackmon‘s May 29 newsletter.
The main is 36 inches in diameter and about 2,800 feet long. A sinkhole appeared over the wastewater line on the trail earlier this year, and grouting the pipeline is supposed to help prevent future sinkholes.
Mobilization of this project is scheduled for the week of June 15, and it may take two to three months before completion, with the contractor working 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, depending on weather. The westbound lane of Garland Road will be closed during construction but will be open during the hours when work has paused.
The nearby section of the trail is expected to remain closed for the duration of the project, and there won’t be a continuous loop around White Rock Lake during that time. East Lawther Drive between Garland Road and Winfrey Point Way is also scheduled to shut down to vehicles during construction to give trail users a detour route.
